Our mission at the Economic Development District of Idaho – Region III, is to work to strengthen local governments, economies, and communities through regional cooperation, comprehensive development strategies, and leveraging of public and private resources resulting in a stronger statewide economy and improved quality of life for the citizens of Idaho.
The Economic Development District – Region III serves the 10 counties and 42 cities throughout Southwest Idaho. Traditionally, the Economic Development Department’s efforts are primarily focused on the following objectives:
Objective 1: Assess community needs and facilitate strategic planning and development by utilizing the annual Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) funded through EDA.
Objective 2: Develop community projects utilizing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program primarily funded by the Idaho Department of Commerce. These efforts focus on public infrastructure, municipal services, downtown revitalizations, and community centers.
Objective 3: Offer small business loans to support small businesses independently and through bank partnerships, where traditional bank financing is difficult to obtain to support their business needs. Three programs are offered: Rural Development, Urban Development, and Brownsfield for environmental clean up sites.
Objective 4: Our new Business Expansion, Attraction, and Retention Program (BEAR) program supports the facilitation of partnerships between business and industry, matching opportunities for greater market share, business growth, and job sustainability.
